CREATIVITY

This is the lifeblood of my existence. The desire to be creative is deeply encoded in my DNA. Since early childhood, I’ve always found ways to express myself through artistic expression one way or another.

When in the fourth grade, my parents arranged for me to take classes at an art academy. During my spare time back then, I created a series of stand-alone cartoons featuring the Statue of Liberty making comments to a TV set on a tower in front of her. I should probably resurrect that concept.≤/p≥

In high school, I won an award for my artistic abilites. The prize was a wooden boxed set of oil paints and brushes. Learning how to paint with them would go on to influence my film-lighting skills years later.

The following year in high school, I won another award for art along with one for my writing skills. The oil painting continued with moody images of (unbeknownst to me at the time) of myself depicted at dusk with with gothic overtones.

Dring grade school, Whenever I was sick and stayed home, I liked to draw floorplans of my dream houses. This resulted in enrolling in architecture claas when I began college. It didn’t take long to realize I wasn’t cut out for learning to draw blueprint starting with detailed renditions of large screws. Having never taken these kinds of classes during high school, my skills lagged. It also bored me. So much for one day designing my dreamhome.

So I switched over to studying fine art. I immediately found that sketching nude women in my figure drawing class was much more to my liking. In fact, I excelled at it. I had read that if you can capture the human body accurately, you can go on to draw anything. This turned out to be the only art class I didn’t get thrown out of. Artistic differences with the other instructors saw to that.
